DHL named Best Express Operator for the 18th consecutive year at the Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards (AFSCA)
DHL's four awards underscore leadership position in Asia
As a reflection of the company's continued drive for service excellence, DHL - the world's leading express and logistics company - was named Best Express Operator for the 18th consecutive year at the prestigious Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards 2004 (AFSCA).
In addition to Best Express Operator, DHL also walked away with three additional awards - Best Logistics Service Provider-Air Freight, Best All Cargo Airline and Best Road Haulier-Asia. In total, DHL received four awards at the ceremony in Shanghai last night, reflecting the company's dominance across disciplines; and the ability to offer the full suite of express and supply chain solutions from a single source.
The AFSCAs, which are widely acknowledged as the industry's most celebrated accolade, seek to recognise and honour outstanding organisations that have shown leadership in various areas. DHL is the only company to have won the Best Express Service award since the Asian Freight Industry Awards - the predecessor of the AFSCA - was inaugurated in 1987. The award has been renamed Best Express Operator since 2003.
The awards follow a series of recent DHL initiatives to strengthen and optimise service offerings in the Asia Pacific. DHL has made continual frequency and capacity enhancements to its Asian Air Network, which currently comprise 24 destinations in 15 countries across Asia served by 19 dedicated aircraft, in addition to some 800 commercial flights utilised daily. The air network links DHL's Central Asia Hub in Hong Kong with the company's other major hub in Singapore, in addition to the Asia Pacific hubs in Bangkok, Seoul, Sydney and Tokyo.
DHL's dedicated air network is complemented by an unrivalled ground infrastructure comprising more than 1,000 offices and facilities, close to 500,000 square metres of warehouse space and over 4,800 vehicles in 41 countries and territories across the region.
To optimise and monitor service quality, DHL established its Asia Pacific Quality Control Centre (APQCC) - the first in the DHL global network - in Singapore earlier this year. The state-of-the-art APQCC functions as the nerve centre for all regional shipment movement control and features a real-time link for DHL teams in the region to pro-actively manage their shipment service quality. DHL also recently introduced the Global Customer Solutions (GCS) unit, which offers customers a single interface to the full suite of DHL express and logistics solutions, from the delivery of a document to managing complex supply chains.
"We are extremely delighted to receive these accolades," said John Mullen, Chief Executive Officer, DHL Asia Pacific. "The awards speak volumes of our continued investment in infrastructure, developing innovative express delivery solutions, and our commitment to anticipate and respond to the evolving needs of our customers."
The Asian Freight & Supply Chain Awards, organised by Cargonews Asia and now in its 18th year, have become the highlight of the Asian freight industry calendar. More than 13,000 readers of Cargonews Asia, the leading freight industry publication in the region, participated in selecting the leading service providers in Asia's cargo industry.
"The awards reflect our continual commitment to deliver customised supply chain solutions to customers in today's dynamic Asian market," said Peter Landsiedel, Chief Executive Officer - Asia Pacific, DHL Danzas Air & Ocean. "The awards are especially significant as they reflect the recognition accorded by the readers, which are, first and foremost, our customers."
DHL has made substantial investments in the Asia Pacific over the past several years totalling more than US$1.13 billion to tap growth opportunities in the world's fastest growing region. These include the US$100 million DHL Central Asia Hub in Hong Kong, US$400 million in Air Hong Kong, DHL's joint venture with Cathay Pacific, a US$215 million investment in Express and Logistics infrastructure in China over the next 5 years and a US$19 million investment by DHL Danzas Air & Ocean and DHL Solutions for establishing or upgrading Logistics Centres in the rest of Asia Pacific. These investments will significantly increase DHL's network coverage, cargo handling and payload capacity.
