DHL enhances Thailand's position as a transport hub for Asia with the opening of the nation's largest-ever Air Express Facility

DHL, the world's No. 1 express and logistics company, opened Thailand's largest-ever air express facility today in a move that bolsters the country's standpoint as a transport hub for the Asian region. Unveiled by DHL's express delivery unit, DHL Express, the 1,500 sq.m. DHL Hub at Bangkok International Airport, Don Muang, will operate a 24-hour facility to consolidate inbound and outbound express shipments, and trans-shipments to the DHL network in Southern Asia and Indochina.

Mr Herbert Vongpusanachai, Managing Director of DHL International (Thailand) Ltd., in charge of DHL Express, said, "The opening of DHL's new hub is an important milestone for Thailand. As the largest hub of its kind in Thailand, it will greatly enhance Thailand's position as a distribution and transport hub for this region. The new hub will also strengthen our No. 1 position as an integrated express and logistics provider for Thailand and the world."

"Our investment in this DHL hub is being driven by continued strong growth in Thailand's international express shipments of time-sensitive goods - ranging from samples and spare parts to semi-finished and finished goods. Thai exporters and importers increasingly leverage express distribution as a source of competitive advantage in an increasingly competitive marketplace. DHL offers comprehensive products and services as well as a facility that offers the values of speed, reliability, innovation and internationalism to meet customers' needs," Mr Vongpusanachai said.

DHL's '24/7' services at the hub facility include the consolidation of inbound and outbound shipments for Thai exporters and importers. As one of six hubs in the Asia Pacific region - alongside Hong Kong, Seoul, Singapore, Sydney and Tokyo - the DHL Bangkok hub will also re-sort shipments arriving from the USA, Europe, and Asia and re-distribute them to the DHL network in Southern Asia and Indochina. The DHL Bangkok hub will accommodate 380 weekly flights and unload, sort and reload over 1.5 million documents and packages for express delivery to their final destinations.

Said Mr Vongpusanachai: "The high technology available in the industry, including state-of-the-art imaging online technology, scanners, an on-line EDI linkage with the Customs Department and comprehensive security systems, will enable pre-custom clearance of shipments. DHL also provides sophisticated shipment management and a track & trace system, which are designed to service customers efficiently."
